The Vadan – Friday 23 October, 7 pm

On the evening of Friday 23 October there is a pre-release showing of a short film shot in and around Penmaenmawr and the surrounding hillsides:  The Vadan. 

Set between the wars, a French archaeologist comes to North Wales to study the local standing stones and inadvertently awakens “The Vadan”. An autumnal chiller, all filmed locally in black and white, the film is followed by a Question and Answer session with Mike Badger, who stars in the film. 

The film is showing at the Community Centre in Penmaenmawr;  doors open at 6.30 pm and the film starts at 7pm. 

All donations on entry will be going to Penmaenmawr Museum.

Winter Lecture Programme for 2026-27

The museum organises a programme of six history-themed talks/lectures every year.  The programme takes place from October to April. Start time is 7.00pm on the 3rd Wednesday of the month (not December).

We are pleased to announce details of the Penmaenmawr Museum Winter Lecture Programme for 2026/2027. Please see the graphic on the left (above on mobile).

 

The first talk is on Wednesday, 21 October 2026 at 7 pm, entitled “From reclamation to resilience: How coastal change shaped our past and changes our futures in north Wales“, by Dr Lynda Yorke.

Lynda studies how the environment and people interact. She looks at how landscapes change, how communities deal with risks such as floods and climate change, and how cultural heritage fits into all of this. Her work blends science about landforms with social issues to help support environmental and social change. She has experience researching past climate shifts, ancient river systems, old glacial landscapes, and the causes and impacts of flooding.

 

All talks are held at Penmaenmawr Community Centre and entry costs £4.00 (free for Friends of Penmaenmawr Museum).

WALKS

 

 

During the summer, the museum organises a programme of guided heritage walks around Penmaenmawr.

Lowland walks are free to join and family-friendly, but donations to help with our insurance costs are always welcome. You can find details of our next lowland walk below.

There is a fee for the upland walks. Please see the information below.

 

Upland Walks

It has long been our ambition to work in partnership with a professional walk leader to develop a programme of upland history walks as a paid service that will contribute to the running costs of the museum. In 2026, this ambition came to fruition and we partnered with one of our members, Sean Gavin, to put together a programme of six mountain walks. As well as being a professional mountain walk leader, Sean formerly worked as a history teacher and he has a passion for the local landscape and heritage.

 

The programme of upland walks for 2026 has now been completed. The walks in our 2027 upland programme will be shown here in due course. For general information, the guided walks are £25 per person, and there is a 10% discount code for Friends of Penmaenmawr Museum.
